Kujaku ( () (ジャク) Kujaku) is one of the villagers of Ishigami Village.

Appearance[]

Kujaku is a woman with dark lips, and sly, almond-shaped eyes. Her hair is styled into a short a-line bob, with two longer segments at the front. Her eyebrows are quite thin, s-shaped with a slightly rounded head that tapers towards the end. She has an air of mature elegance.

She wears a long, navy-blue, tube-top style dress with no sleeves that exposes her collarbone. The top of it flops over slightly, showing the brown underside of the leather. She wears the village rope as a belt around her waist.

Personality[]

Kujaku is quite composed but happy, usually sporting a slight smile and tends to chuckle a bit before saying something (for example, "heh... It could be that one of those countless stone statues was revived."[3]). This could be because almost all of what she says is a funny comment of some sort.

Abilities and Skills[]

During the villagers' introduction in the anime, Kujaku was shown helping sort mushrooms with the other women.[4] She also helps pump the bellows for the iron furnace.

Synopsis[]

Kujaku first appears during the village's discussion about the new outsider that appeared. Kujaku's take on him is that he could be one of the many statues, revived. She seems to say this in a joking way but is actually the most correct.[5][6] Later, she is drawn by the scent of ramen and tries a bowl along with everyone else. She comments that if Ganen thinks it's delicious then it really must be true.[7]

In the anime, she is also shown pumping the bellows for the iron furnace.[8]

Trivia[]

  • Kujaku is named after malachite ( () (じゃく) (いし) , literally peafowl-stone), an opaque, green-banded mineral.
  • Kujaku correctly guessed that Senku was someone revived from a stone statue after hearing an outsider had arrived at the village.
